Wedding Wednesday: Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is tomorrow and for some its a great season for a wedding.  While it may be a time for family to celebrate love; hosting a wedding over Thanksgiving has it's pros and cons.

http://siennawedding.blogspot.com
Although your family may already be traveling and have time off work after Thanksgiving and of course your theme is relatively simply; Thanksgiving is also one of the busiest times for travel and therefore flights may be a little more costly and venues difficult to book.  Unless you live in a warm climate, the weather during November is very unpredictable.

Choose a color scheme with browns, oranges, yellows and even reds for that deep earthy touch.  If you haven't had enough traditional Thanksgiving food, incorporate some of them info your meal such as squash, mashed potatoes, turkey and pumpkin.  Being a fan of signature drinks, create a delicious drink using apple cider, cranberry, pear and berry cocktails.

Enjoy this season of Harvest!

Wedding Wednesday: THE Bachelorette Party!

Unlike the "Bridal Shower" which is often mild in demeanor and hosted by the mom; the Bachelorette Party is typically put together by the bridesmaids or that college girlfriend.  This is a great opportunity for the bride to take a much needed break from wedding planning and enjoy her friends.

When setting the date, take into consideration all that has to be done leading up to the wedding for both the bride and her bridesmaids.  Be sure to send your invitations in enough time for guests to RSVP and add to their personal calendars.

Many of us have been in a position of "whooooaaaaa" and asked what is TOO wild?  My short answer is, if the bride experiences more than temporary embarrassment then you might want to scale it down a bit.  Considering you probably don't want to put your friends in a position of being offensive and lessening the "fun" factor ask the bride to be real clear on what a night of fun is to her.  If she isn't a whipped cream and g-string flinging girl, I'd suggest you  pass on the strippers

Always use good judgment and be sure to have a way of escape for the lovely bride.  Last but not least NEVER videotape.. lol  Be considerate of your friends personality and don't push the envelope too much.

As the organizer of what is suppose to be the last night of fun, you are responsible for the bride's comfort and safety on her big night out. This becomes especially important when the bride's alcohol levels lead her to get a little out of control.

Enjoy!

Wedding Motivational Monday: Fighting It Out!

Photo Source: Simply Perfect Peace Events / Steve Koo Photography
What does marriage mean to you?  Not the ceremony but the actual life commitment! "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

By divine design we are made for each other.  It is not by accident that God took a part of man and tailor-made woman just for him.  When you think about your marriage, forget what the statistics say or how politicians have made it easier to get a divorce.  Know that wherever you go in this world today, whatever continent, whatever nation, you will find that men and women are joined together in the bonds of matrimony and are rearing families.

No one ever said MARRIAGE would be easy! One of the worst laws that could have ever been passed was the "no-fault" divorce.  Now people can throw in the towel for reasons as simple as "we just don't love each other any more" OR even worse, "I'm just not happy".  People treat marriage like the latest fad diet... I'll try it for a while then if it doesn't work right away I'll try something else.  Where is the work that our parents committed to?

"Mrs. Sharon Bond Moore is the founder and owner of A Vision from Shaye. Shaye, a nickname given to her by her mother began learning the industry from her father, John Bond who was a caterer and the owner of Bond’s Catering Service and John’s Buffet. She coordinated and produced her first event in 1997 and catered her first event in 2000. Since then, Sharon has coordinated wedding ceremonies, receptions, birthday parties, bridal showers, corporate events and much more.  Located in Baltimore, MD, Sharon is the wife of one, and the mother of two beautiful children, Tamara and Calvin."

Fight for your MARRIAGE - it is vitally important. It was obviously felt to be so by God, who made it the first institution He created, and that with His own hands.

Wedding Motivational Monday: "After the Wedding Part V"

Planning a wedding is not only filled with a lot of details, it can also be an emotional rollercoaster.  When I consult with potential clients my encouragement for them is to be intentional about the future;  looking past the wedding date and into the committment of marriage taking place.

Being intentional about the relationship will increase committment, love, stability, satisfaction, connection, and passion.   So as you prepare for the most important day of your life, are you also willing to prepare for your future.  How willing are you to set aside the details of linens and flowers to gain these qualities for your marriage? It is my hope that you dont think they'll magically appear after the wedding day.

Definitely enjoy your planning process BUT don't lose sight of your relationship ...

Wedding Motivational Monday: "After the Wedding Part IV"

As we continue our talk about life AFTER the ceremony; know that marriage will remain a popular choice for most people.  Although Peter said it's best that man live alone, he also stated it's better to marry than to burn.

Being in the business of love and romance, I do not think we need less marriage.  I do, however, think we need more marriages that are intentional about caring for the marriage commitment. It's no secret that 100's of hours are spent planning for that big day; how many take time to prepare for life after the wedding. For life with problems, stress, disagreements, and times of uncertainty; when you're discussing your goals, ask yourself what will life look like one, five, ten years after the wedding and then work to accomplish those goals, together

Wedding Motivational Monday: "After the Wedding Part III"

Social media, with all of it's drama, can often be the place of great revelation.  Recently, I had the pleasure of participating in a "wedding" discussion.  One poster questioned how many couples spend time in counseling prior to the marriage.  As a wedding professional, it is really important that my clients take time to to care for their relationship before marriage. I am a firm believer that pre-marital counseling would noticably affect the state and satisfaction of marriages in our communities today.

The wedding industry is a multi-billion dollar per year business. I wonder what would happen for marriages if billions of dollars were spent to prepare couples for marriage or help maintain marriages as they battle the hustle and bustle of everyday life?

Just something to think about - "Love Without End"

Wedding Motivational Monday: "After the Wedding Part II"

Part II of our series will focus on leading up to the "big day".  I have found that in the planning of this overwhelming, life altering event it can become easy to lose site of the relationship and all it stands for.   During the season of  "wedding planning" I encounter many brides who for one watch too much television and focus more on the color of linens than the current shifts in the relationship.

Truth be told - Engagement and marriage changes relationships in more ways than planning the details of a wedding and finding a place to live after the ceremony.   When you become engaged, it solidifies the committment of individuals to one another, and marriage further solidifies the committment as couples vow to care for one another throughout a lifetime.

It is my belief that during the season of engagement, couples forget about what it means to be committed, and focus on where, when, and how the committment will take place.  My challenge for engaged couples is to use the season of engagement to plan for their marriage as well as their wedding! Be intentional about attending to the shifts in the relationship and work to increase the satisfaction received.

Continue to grow and learn about who you are and what it means to be committed instead of hurridly planning the details of a wedding.  "Love Without End"

Wedding Motivational Monday: "After the Wedding - A Five Part Series"

As a wife and professional planner I have some concerns about the state of marriage and weddings as they are planned in our society.   We live in a time where television has seemingly outlined what "weddings" should look like and how brides should act.

What are couples really planning for? Is it a magical day of beauty, radiance, love, and perfection or a lifetime of the same qualities added with peace, communication and understanding?

As you begin planning CHOOSE your relationship and work to protect it from outside stress and chaos.  You'll soon realize that being "intentional" about not just your engagement will benefit your marriage.  Your commitment and love for one another will be strengthened and a catalyst for maintaining your marriage in the future.
