Your Halloween Themed Wedding...

Think back to when you were a kid; wasn't it fun to get dressed up and go door to door and yell TRICK OR TREAT!!  By now all of the trick or treaters have tossed their candy bags on your living room floor to be inspected and are headed to bed; unless of course he's 49 years old.  These days just as many adults have a good time trick or treating as the kids.  My husband asked me today, "where is all the candy?"  Umm, hello gone, I yelped.. LOL  He's been looking forward to trick or treat candy for weeks.. Oh well funky smell..hahah

There’s no doubt creating a Halloween themed wedding can be a lot of fun – especially to those with a mischievous spirit.

How many have thought about having their wedding around this day?  How would you incorporate the colors without celebrating "Halloween?" Here are a few suggestions:
  • Have your reception in a mansion or historical venue to take advantage of  the ‘haunted feeling.  Lighting can go a long way to create a spooky effect without being ridiculous.
  •  Choose a bridal gown with black accents; belt, beads, headpiece, etc for a Gothic look. OR go with the something from the new black line of Vera Wang.

  •  Dont forget your bridesmaids.  Their gowns in deep fuschia or purple with black accessories will be a nice compliment to your bridal gown.
  • Now for the groom.  Staying with the same theme, this would be the perfect time for the groom to wear tails.   If not, then classic black is good.

  • Dramatic centerpieces, maybe tall twigs that have crooked branches wrapped in lighting.

When considering something this dramatic; please don't cheapen the wedding by having loads of candy corn, spidery ghosts, trick drinking glasses or fake blood of any kind for any reason. Other than that, have fun  - it's still your day!

    Is Black the new White?

Vera Wang has designed some amazing wedding gowns over the years.  The celebrity dress designer, who has created gowns in dove grey and mint in the past, took it a step further this year showing that a black wedding dress may no longer be taboo.

What's your opinion? Has she gone too far this time?  Would you wear black to your wedding?

    SimplyShay: Where are the children?

Most event goers are in the age group of 25-45 and have small to school age children.  If they happen to be over the age of 50; the liklihood of them having grandchildren is say 85%.  Events today are not as simple as years past; with the so called recession, people are finding that going out and getting a sitter is a challenge. Therefore, whether you're planning a seminar, conference, anniversary or birthday celebration or even your wedding ~ you want to do all you possibly can to make sure the day is blissful.  Consider children in your plans!
Event Child Care is one of the most important things that hosts can offer to their guests. The kids are able to have fun instead of being told to sit quietly. Many parents won't travel without their children or simply don't have anyone to babysit. Hiring a professional service increases attendance and gives parent peace of mind knowing that their kids are close by. This is also a huge compromise for relatives that feel offended that the event is for adults only. (Elegant Event Sitters)
As a planner, blogger, parent and aunt I've leaved that dependable child care can be a challenge. How many times have there been events you've had to skip because children weren't allowed. Or, in the case of a wedding, if the children were to come, there is a chance the kids will be disruptive and distractions from the moments and happy memories of this very important day!

    (DRUM ROLL......)
I have a solution coming soon to the Chicagoland area ~ SIMPLY PEACEFUL THINGS ~EVENT CARE (part of Simply Perfect Peace Events and Designs by Shay). Look for our open house in 2012.

    2012 Wedding Trends

The Wedding Salon swooped in on Monday leaving behind some amazing wedding trends for 2012.  The ultimate trend will be looking to nature and to local landscape for reception tables and Chicago's finest designers showcased just that!

Who would ever think of etching the dinner menu onto charger plates for the couple to keep post wedding?  Yanni Design Studio of course!
How about imcorporating origami accents onto wedding cakes?
Another amazingly unique new trend unveilved was cookie-cupcake towers (my fav!!) they look like cupcakes, but are actually cookies.

Brides who attended enjoyed courure fashions by Jeny Yoo which showcased both bridesmaid gowns in every color and their sleek classic wedding gowns.

Simply Shay: To Have and To Hold

Happy Anniversary Michelle & President Barack Obama; to each of my past, present and future clients that are holding strong to love - LOVE WITHOUT END!!

To Have and to hold - what does that really mean? What is Love? Is it simply a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person? What does it mean to love and cherish someone? To hold dear; to embrace with interest; to indulge; to encourage?

My parents have loved and cherished each other for 59yrs now.  In watching and speaking to them I know it hasn't always been smiles and joy; but they found a way to endure.  My sister was married to her honey "until death did they part".. over the past months in cleaning his things we found so many love letters that not even she knew about.  For those of us having the honor and privilege of seeing those letters... they truly defined love!!!  "R.I.P MAC"

“To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part”

How do you celebrate and keep your love alive?
