Unique Escort Card Ideas....

Old traditions meet new!  Here is a collection of  ideas and tips for escort cards.  Although almost anything goes, there are do’s and don’ts to this very basic concept. Whether you are a DIY bride or using the skills from a pro, you want the transition from cocktail to reception to be an easy and fast flowing one.
Make sure you distinguish guest with the same names (Jr. & Sr's)

As pretty as this is do NOT make your guest search for their names due to them being hidden!

This area should be placed in perfect view of the guests either at cocktail hour or upon entering the formal dining space. If your guests don’t see it, they may assume it’s open seating.

Does every guest get an escort card? YES. No exceptions here!

Favorite Friday Finds: "Take A Seat"

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
Can we agree that every detail of an event is important?  It's an awesome feeling when guests arrive and utter two simple words "Simply Beautiful” followed by a gasp. Ideally this happens because they are so amazed by every one of their senses being heightened (you know your five senses).   Today we're going to touch on furniture and what they feel and LOL what they don't feel! This is an integral part of every event that so often gets pushed to the side and forgotten! Seriously, - you have to have someplace to sit down don’t you?  Here are a few of my favorites for 2012 ~ Enjoy

The Ghost Chair!

These modern clear chairs are comfortable, not at all bulky, and best of all blend wonderfully with the other furniture in the room and your decor. I love the clean look and how they really open up a space.

The Chiavari or Ballroom Chair:

This IMO is a classic!  The Chiavari Chair proves that good style never dies, but it helps to be versatile. The reason the Chiavari is still around is because of it's versatility; you can get it in every color from and you can cover it in a million different ways!
Michael Segal Photography

Another way to provide a chic contemporary feel to your reception is to switch up your seating. Go for bench seating to provide a lower view line of the ceremony space. OR for a really long ceremony, a wide couch-like bench is the perfect choice!

How do you plan on incorporating seating at your wedding or special event?  Whether you decide to use the chair for a bridal shower, ceremony, or reception, please keep your guests comfort in mind. We want them to see how beautiful everything is HOWEVER sitting in the chairs for an extended period of time can become uncomfortable. NOTE:  You can also find a variety of cushion covers to suit your color palette.

Color by Color 2012 - Part IV

Part four of Color by Color 2012 is about as pretty as they come! This color has always been one of my favorites and this year it's making quite a comeback.

Sweet Lilac, which is in the purple color family and probably why I love it, is a beautiful and breathtaking color when used in weddings. I love everything about this “sweet” color and can’t wait to see it being used more!!

Color by Color 2012 - Part III

It's another #WeddingWednesday and today we're going to touch on a color that is suppose to be super HOT for 2012.  Cockatoo, which to me, closely resembles Tiffany Blue could easily stand alone but I would love to see it paired with a blush, hot pink or tangerine!! Here are some of my favorite examples of how you can apply this color to your wedding!

It all starts with the invitation!
I just love a good macaroon!!!
These shoes by Aruna Seth are stunning!!!

Signature cocktails are usually a big hit and I love the splash of color incorporated in these!
Centerpieces showcase tangerine colored makara orchids in white glass vases. The bridal bouquet is comprised of orange roses, orange lilies and orange hypericum berries.  (Source:  Stemsatlanta)
These vibrant Jimmy Choo strappy shoes are now available in orange

Wedding Attire for the Children

Eli Murray Photography
Children in your wedding add a certain element of charm and definitely unpredictability to your wedding. Dressing them is often times a challenge and although there are no definite rules, here are a few suggestions to help you along your way.
  • When you begin attire shopping for the Brides Maid  you should also start shopping for the children's attire. Be sure to check the turn around time for the items you choose and order ahead to have them a full month before the Wedding.
  • Because children grow, ordering too early will increase the risk of a growth spurt. But if you fall in love with something early on, realize that styles for children come and go and what you love now may not be available in six months.  Therefore, consider ordering a size larger and plan on having alterations done before the wedding.
Choosing the Right Color for Your Wedding!
David's Bridal

  • White or ivory flower girls' dresses are always darling. Note that not all whites are created equal! Your gown dictates which white is required for the rest of the wedding party. What color is it - bright white, ivory, cream in color? Is it silk or another fabric?
  • Silk is always slightly off white even when it is called white. Never mix off-white and bright white; whoever wears the silk white will look dingy. So, if you have a silk white gown select silk white, off-white or color dresses for the girls.
  • A perfect color to match your adult attendants will require ordering both adult and child dresses from the same manufacturer together from the same dye lot. Ordering a color from a different manufacturer will almost never match.
  • Consider a coordinating shade of the adults' attire such as pink against burgundy or light blue against dark blue. This opens up many new choices. Another direction is to use the color of your flowers. This can create a striking effect.
  • There are several ways to add color to white or ivory outfits for the children. Many dresses can be purchased with colored sashes. If by chance the right color sash is not available, purchase wide satin ribbon from any fabric or craft store or have your bridal salon order additional fabric to match your Bride's Maids gowns and ask them to make up sashes to match.
David's Bridal
  • Another nice touch is to order small flower bouquets on a safety clasp pin. Center them on a bow in back or pin on the waistline in front. BoomKatPow! Instant color coordination.
What Should the Boys Wear?

Martha Stewart
The Ring Bearer can be dressed in many different ways.  You can go with a classic Eton (shorts) suit or a mini version of the groom.  The shorts can be worn throughout the year and usually with long socks. This style is especially charming on boys 4 years and younger.

A good option for the ring bearer is a tailored suit. This often meets the approval of parents because it can be worn again - and the pants and shirt repeatedly.

If you're having Junior Groomsmen they can wear either a tailored suit or tuxedo to match the adult men in the wedding party..

What are you considering for the children in your wedding party?

Favorite Friday Finds: Marrying on the 13th

Friday is usually a good day right? You get paid on Friday's - work week ends on Friday and at the Dillard house you eat fish and handcut fries on Friday! If you're in Chicago, it's House Music at Rev's on Friday too!  Now what's different about this particular Friday? Does Friday the 13th make it any different

According to some sources it's the most widespread superstition in the United States today. Some people refuse to go to work on Friday the 13th, some won't eat in restaurants, many wouldn't think of setting a wedding on the date.  Well, in honor of this very superstitious day, here are 13 facts and fictions that should make you at least go hmmmm.
  • It is according to Hindu tradition that rain on your wedding day is considered good luck
  • The Middle Eastern tradition of brides painting henna on their hands and feet serves to protect them from the evil eye
  • According to Swedish tradition, a bride should put a silver coin from her father and a gold coin from her mother in each shoe to ensure that she’ll never do without
  • In Holland, a pine tree is planted outside the newlyweds’ home as a symbol of fertility and luck
  • Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because it was once thought that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart
  • The groom carries the bride across the threshold to bravely protect her from evil spirits lurking below
  • Queen Victoria started the Western world’s white wedding dress trend in 1840 – before, brides simply wore their best dress
  • Ancient Greeks and Romans thought the veil protected the bride from evil spirits; brides have worn veils ever since
  • Romans, believing evil spirits could not harm someone inside a circle, gave us the tradition of bouquets and the wearing of wreaths
  • The “something blue” in a bridal ensemble symbolizes purity, fidelity, and love
  • The tradition of a wedding cake comes from ancient Rome, where revelers broke a loaf of bread over a bride’s head for fertility
  • The bride stands to the groom’s left during a Christian ceremony, because in bygone days the groom needed his right hand free to fight off other suitors (hilarious)
  • In many cultures around the world – including Celtic, Hindu and Egyptian weddings – the hands of a bride and groom are literally tied together to demonstrate the couple’s commitment to each other and their new bond as a married couple (giving us the popular phrase “tying the knot”)
Do you really think one day has more luck than another? Would you attend a wedding on Friday the 13th?

Color by Color 2012 - Part 2

Happy Wedding Wednesday!  Last week we took at look at Solar Power (yellow) and Sodalite (blue) which were two really powerful combinations.  Today, however, we are going to look at two new different looks for 2012.

This color "pink" has been hot and cold over the years but has recently become one of the hottest when it comes to fashion and design so let's dig into it further and see how you can incorporate it into your design elements.

There are a few reasons that pink is so standard for weddings. The biggest one is that it is a very effeminate color, and always so pretty. Another nice thing in regards to pink is that it is flattering to almost each skin tone, not similar to colors such as green or yellow.

This Christian Louboutin will add more than a punch of color for any bridesmaid

Bouquet and headpiece adds a touch of color
If I wanted to pair this with anything I'd chooose purple! Bellflower is another hot color through this Spring and Summer.  Whatever you choose - choose to have fun!

Below is some fun pink, purple and black inspiration from around the websphere for you to consider when planning your wedding and/or special event.
