Flattering Bridesmaid Dresses

In this business I have seen quite a few bridesmaid dresses that make me say "for real?"  When choosing dresses for your girls that are flattering!  To do so think texture, color and cut.  Size matters ladies- I'm not not talking about weight.  Height is an important aspect to remember.

Although you may not be able to please everyone, try and avoid them being uncomfortable.

  1. Are you ok with the dresses being different or would you prefer them to be the same? Take into account how many bridesmaids you have when considering this option.
  2. Fabric and color! If you have a strong feeling for taffeta, make it known. Not sure what "orange" you want? Sending your bridal party an image of your flowers or other decor can help them with the color family (if that's an option for you)
  3. Be consistent!  If everyone has on floor length dresses for your formal wedding; the one bridesmaid in a short cocktail dress just may look out of place.
  4. Style, style, style - Sweet heart neckline, high waist, tea length? Keep in mind figures and height when selecting.  When choosing on their own, most women will probably choose a style that works best with their body type.
  5. Don't wait too long!! You want to give enough time for alterations if necessary.

You don't have to be a bridezilla BUT it's important to provide guidelines even if you are allowing your bridesmaids to choose their own dresses. (no prints, no strapless, low cleavage, length, etc).  Coordination is important for the pictures

~Enjoy the process

Wedding Motivational Monday: Fighting the Good Fight!

Adrienne & "Mooney" Rufus Trent
Relationships can be very trying at times.  Often to the point of wanting to throw in the towel and say forget this crap!  Well, today being Memorial Day I thought I'd encourage those in relationships or looking for one to fight as our soldiers did.. til the end!!!  After you've done all you can.. prayed AND cried square your shoulders and let's get it because truly anything worth having IS worth fighting for!  Only difference is I'm going to suggest five non-violent ways to fight the good fight.

Communication:  I posted about this topic before and knowing how to communicate effectively is vital to the survival of any relationship.  Ladies, I know they don't want to hear "we need to talk" but sometimes we just do.  Be mindful that the conversation isn't all about what he doesn't do or only about what you need.  Be willing to listen as well as speak.  Fellas, sex doesn't answer all of our questions nor does it make us forget we have them....

No Outsiders: If I could high five myself I would.  Me and you against the world; ride or die; aint no stopping US now; it take two to make a thing go right...yep, all of that!  Many people have a lot of advice for your relationship but be careful when that friend says "girl forget him" or even worse "don't let him/her dictate what you do"  I had the opportunity to listen to a few men give "advice" to a man recently about his situation.  I was appalled at how they treated this brother who was only trying to respect his woman and honor his word.  Seek WISE counsel and use wisdom in doing that :)

Janice & Rochie Surles

Latoya & Dwayne Perry

Counseling: This is where the WISE counsel comes in.  If the relationship needs intervention don't be too proud to talk to someone that can be unbiased and believes in strong, positive relationships!!!

Building: When I say building I mean just that BUILDING! You've seen homes that go up quickly and come down just as quick.  The builder more than likely used cheap materials and didn't put a lot of care into the project.  Put good things into your homes for "A wise woman builds her home but a foolish one tears it down". We must watch our mouths and learn to study to be quiet.  This doesn't mean be a doormat but it does mean learn when to speak and what to speak.

Respect: Take the top four,  add this and whewwww you'll get as much sex (keep it spicy folks is a bonus tip) as you can stand!!! LOL  yes, there are a few other things but I believe if you can do these five you have a fighting chance!

Disclaimer:  The opinion expressed here is that of my own.. that's it, that's all!

Wedding Wednesday: Meet Abigail!

Simply Perfect Peace Events and Designs by Shay is pleased to introduce you to our calligrapher and design associate, ABIGAIL OLSEN!  Abigail began her college career in graphic design and has always had a passion for creativity.  A self professed DIY junkie, you can count on her for not only amazing hand printing but clean, modern, beautiful design work as well.

Abigail and I first met in Waukegan when I was working for Blue Cross Blue Shield when I was given the assignment to work as a project coordinator for a major corporate initiative to be held in Waukegan where she worked.  At that time had no idea of how close we would become while working on what seemed like a year long project.  Abigail was instrumental in the overall success of the project.... therefore, when considering who to add to our team, it was a no brainer!

To my delight, Abigail and I were finishing up yet another project for BCBS in 2009 and she said "Help I'm Engaged!  On 10-10-10, Abigail and Rocky were married in the mountains of Utah and I was honored to work with them on the most memorable project of their lives.

ABIGAIL "ABBEY" .............. WELCOME!!! To view the blog post by (Wedding photographed by Kayleen Taulanga)

Wedding Motivational Monday: Weight Loss

You've gotten the ring, ordered the cake and flowers; what about the personal trainer?  Many brides struggle with whether or not they want to lose weight prior to their wedding day.  If you're trying to lose 5, 10, 40 or simply maintain, here are a few pointers to consider.

  1. Dont wait until the last minute to consider your weight loss plan. If you can afford it, invest in a trainer, take a class, dance!!
  2. Trade the soda for water.  Good old H2o (if you struggle in this area and need flavor, add lemons, limes or oranges)
  3. Double portions aren't going to help you here.  I know moms macaroni and cheese is delicious but small portions are key.  For energy, consider carrying healthy snacks.
  4. FRUITS and VEGETABLES .... they'll fill you up and hopefully will have less room for the fattening stuff.
  5. NO MORE BOOZE!!! Hundreds of empty calories can add quick unwanted pounds.
  6. Again, you MUST add exercise to your daily regimen.  Get up, get out and get moving!  This will increase your energy level and aid in the fat burning process.

Or, as the collection's title, "Mei Meng" — Chinese for "beautiful dreams" — suggests, perhaps it's all about the Chinese market. The brand plans on entering Asia this year, and bridal is the first push.
