One trend that I tend to see a lot is women is masking. A lot of women are hurting, grieving, feeling insecure, or inadequate, unloved or unworthy of love but yet they are hiding these feelings behind a multitude of things. We tend to do things that we think will help us to feel better, but these things are just temporary. How many of us, find ourselves walking around Target spending unnecessary money because we have had a bad day? Instead of talking about it, or working it out, we mask it with shopping. Or maybe when you are feeling bad, you overeat. What was just one cookie turned into the entire bag.Sometimes, we turn to drugs or alcohol. Sometimes it’s a bad attitude or maybe gossiping about others to make ourselves look or feel better.
The reality is that people have been hiding since Adam and Eve ate from the tree of life and then covered themselves with fig leaves. When God came in the garden, he asked, “Adam where art thou?” Now of course the all knowing, all seeing, everywhere at the same time God knew where Adam was hiding. The question was asked so that Adam would know that he was not hiding anything from God.
Genesis 3: 9-10. And the Lord called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10. And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden , and I was afraid because I was naked, and I hid myself.
This brings us right back to our modern day fig leaves. What are you trying to hide from God? Are you hiding your depression, anxiety, low self esteem, your history of abuse, your eating disorder? What are you hiding? And even more importantly…why are you hiding? Are your children, your husband, your job, or your friends more important to you than YOU ARE TO YOURSELF? Ladies, take some time today, to re-establish your relationship with YOU. Take off the masks and be real with yourself. Are you overscheduled? Are you a people pleaser? Do you have some unresolved issues , hurts, or situations that could be helped by seeing a therapist? Whatever, it is, stop hiding. Get help! YOU DESERVE IT!
