Venue Spotlight: Aérée Loft at Room 1520

On a cold winter night, the newly renovated Aérée Loft was certainly the place to be.  This 5,000+ square foot space offers an airy elegance with pristine, white decor. In addition to a 16-foot soaring glass entrance with a modern, artisan staircase, the Aérée Loft’s versatile great room offers 11-foot ceilings and crystal chandeliers throughout. Additional amenities include space for a dance floor, dinner service for up to 150 people or 250 people for a cocktail reception, and access to a bride/VIP room equipped with lounge seating, mini bar area, closet and private restroom.

Located at 1520 W. Fulton in the West Loop, this hot spot is perfect for hosting charity benefits, wedding receptions, fashion shows and more.  Throughout the evening hundreds of guests mingled and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres from Finesse Cuisine and treats from the amazing candy bar provided by Candyality & A Perfect Event. In the Skyy Martini bar I personally enjoyed the Lemon Meringue Pie! Upon entering this fabulous space, guests were greeted by an aerialist which hung from the ceiling in the entry way.  Imagine the silhouette from the outside looking in~AMAZING!.

Special thanks to all those that participated in making this a great event!  Haley, Venue Manager of Room 1520 for being such a gracious host, Avery House for  capturing the essence of the evening through photography, 3C Event Design for creating the overall design and Art of Imagination for the draping and crystals. Debi Lilly of A Perfect Event donated her Wintery "ice" DIY centerpiece, suspended orchids and voltives.
"a suspended floral arrangement is so unexpected and surprising - it takes everyone's breath away as they are typically seen only on top tables"

Urban Outfitters launches new bridal line...

Urban Outfitters is getting in on the Bridal frenzy by offering a new Bridal line on a new site, bhldn.comLike its biggest competition, J.Crew, BLDHN (pronounced "beholden") offers wedding gowns, which are priced from $600-$4000, bridesmaid and party dresses, jewelry, headpieces, shoes, handbags, gloves, belts, and even lingerie.

The collection includes 15 wedding gowns, four of which are shorter styles.

As the managing editor of the new brand, Kristin Norris, explained in the release:

We know our customer, and we know she's looking for a brand that reflects her unique perspective. She may have interests common to her friends, but she's looking to create a moment that's all her own… it's not so much about our point of view as it is about capturing hers.
The "Shop" section of the site extends style assistance through emails from BHLDN stylists who will offer "advice, reassurance, second opinions."  There is an "Explore" section too, with quizzes ("What Kind of Bride Are You?"), an album of vintage wedding photographs, as well as a "My BHLD" page which looks to be a Polyvore for brides.   Stand alone BHLDN stores are expected by year's end.

A wedding may be the biggest and most important party a woman will ever throw or attend, and BHLDN plans to be there for all of the special moments. ~ Peaceful Planning

David Tutera and Sears....

On February 1, 2011 Sears and David Tutera said "I Do"!  As a celebrity wedding planner for the past 25 years – who also helps make wedding dreams come true for real brides on the TV show My Fair Wedding, David Tutera believes your engagement ring should elicit memories of his proposal and all those little moments that you share only with each other. And the ring should represent the type of bride you are as well as the woman you are.

Not sure where to start?  Remember the 4 C's:
  • Cut – How much a diamond sparkles!
  • Color – How colorless a diamond is. (Note: All of the diamonds in David's collection are G-H—an excellent, near colorless range that makes up only the top 4 percent of the world’s diamonds.)
  • Carat – Refers to the weight of the diamond.
  • Clarity – Determines how flawless a diamond is.
David Tutera has four looks for his Bridal Jewelry collection – Eternal, Heirloom, Legacy, and Radiance -Looking to see more of his collection? Check out my Examiner Article.

I'm Seeing Red!!!

Today is National Wear Red Day®—Friday, February 4, 2011—millions will help spread the critical message that "Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear—It's the #1 Killer of Women.®" The Red Dress®, the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness, was created by The Heart Truth in 2002 to deliver an urgent wakeup call to American women.  In observation of Women's Heart Health Day we're focusing on RED!!!
U.S. Brides today are a tab bit more liberal then in years past BUT still generally choose beige, white or ecru wedding dresses. Etiquette requires that guests avoid wearing white, but they may wear other colors. When deciding on attire, it is most important to not "outshine the bride" and to wear clothing suitable to the style (casual or formal), time (day or evening) and location of the wedding.

In China, red symbolizes good luck and happiness and is pervasive throughout the wedding. Although some brides wear white, the majority still wear the traditional red, high-necked dress to walk down the aisle. It is called a cheongsam or qipao.

Indians also believe that red brings happiness and luck to the bride and groom. Bridal dresses are red and decorated with beads, sequins or intricate designs. There are three types of wedding gowns: the Sari, a long piece of cloth that is wrapped around the body; the Ghagra choli, a long skirt and chemise combined with a scarf; and a Shalwar kameez, pants covered by a long tunic.

Your Wedding, Your Mother............In Law

She’s the first woman he ever loved. To him she’s smart, attractive and accomplished. Chances are she’s a professional woman, and she may have been a single mom. Over the years, she’s developed an easy confidence.  This woman of all women is about to become your (drum roll please) Monster ooops Mother-in-law.

Competition between the two most influential women in a man’s life is as old as the institution of marriage itself.  The wedding and its planning stages could very well set the tone for your future relationship. If you ignore your groom's mother's wishes, you may live to regret it. On the other hand, if you bend over backwards to please your mother-in-law, you could be setting yourself up for a subservient role for the long term.

With a background in Project Management (which I follow for event planning) I believe an excellent way to please your mother-in-law without having to cater to her is to treat your wedding planning as you would any other project. Projects have stakeholders such as investors, customers, and managers. So does your wedding. In your mother-in-law's case, what's at stake? What are her expectations? What's her role? What activities is she well suited for? Does she understand the project's objectives and goals? Adopting a business-like wedding planning approach from the beginning can help you establish boundaries while also helping your mother-in-law understand the larger picture and her role in it.

Planning a wedding with other strong women involved requires communication, cooperation, and compromise. If you can find the right balance, you can please your mother-in-law without catering to her every wish.... OR you could just hire her (hilarious & I'm laughing for real)

Say You Love Me

Say You Love Me - say I'm the one your eyes see. Tell me you need me deep down inside like I need you.  You see I need you, to see me through I want to hear you say darling I love you!!! (DJ Rogers, Natalie Cole)

You've made your way down the aisle and you stand there with your love; two hearts ready to make an everlasting promise. Your wedding vows set the tone for your marriage. The right vows make your wedding romantic, meaningful, and uniquely your own. Wedding Vows can be traditional, old-fashioned, original, unique, religious, funny, poetic, romantic, or with the flavor of the country of your ethnic background.
  • I (name), take you (name) to be my (husband/wife), my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live.
No matter what kind, though, wedding vows should flow from your heart  ~ Peaceful Planning!
