Wedding Motivational Monday: Weathering the Storm!!

I do a lot of talking about marriage and relationships.  Not because I'm an "expert" but I know that they require work.  I also know that the work can pay off if both people are willing to............. WORK!

People that know me know I have a fear of large bodies of water.  Sometimes when I'm overwhelmed with work and life I'll dream that I'm driving somewhere and the road just suddenly ends with me going into ... guess what? A large body of water!!!  Now I now know what that dream means for me (get some rest) but have you thought about this in terms of your relationship?

Sometimes we're just overwhelmed with life, but how do you know when you're driving down that winding relationship road to what appears to be a large body of nothing?  Here are a few signs to keep in mind and in sight.

No Cookies!!! Intimacy is what keeps the marriage alive folks.  When you rarely or no longer come together for those "moments", the door is left open for other problems.  To be "one" you've got to keep the pot boiling!

Roomates!  What am I saying? You have no words for each other!  You simple share a home and expenses and that's it.   Not even a simple hello/goodbye.  More than friends or casual acquaintances, you must be BEST friends.  You'll need to laugh, have pillow talk.  You shouldn't have to walk on pins and needles around your spouse.

Respect! Or lack there of.  When you no longer care what the other person feels or thinks, you’re going down a very dangerous road.  Marriages seem to be healthier when the wife lets the husband lead, be the head of the house, and when the husband cares for his wife more than he cares for himself.

Marriage is W.O.R.K.. pull up your boots and weather the storm!

Wedding Motivational Monday: Expectations!

I am no therapist or counselor but I love sharing my thoughts on relationships.  A group of us use to get together on occasion and have these pow wow's covering all types of topics.  It was always interesting to hear the different views on what we want vs what we need.  The general consensus was  real relationships aren’t anything like what you see in the movies full of non-stop romance, candlelight dinners and whirlwind trips to exotic locations.

Real relationships take effort, time and commitment. Great relationships happen because not only do two people love each other very much, they also value one another and are willing to make an investment of time into the relationship – day after day......after day!

A good way to look at this is to consider not getting too excited with the very high “highs” or too concerned with the very low “lows.” By reframing these extremes, you will be left with the right measure of balance and the right set of expectations to build a quality and sustainable relationship for many years to come.

Keep working - keep building - keep loving!

Wedding Motivational Monday: Be Thoughtful!

Often we'll stop by a stranger and give them a few dollars, smile and share kind words.  Then we'll get home and snarl.. "what the what?"  Come on people, it doesn't take much.  Think of small, specific ways to make your relationship better whether it's getting her oil changed or telling him you're proud of what he does for the family.  Be kind and be considerate!

You should make an effort every day to deposit at least one act of thoughtfulness into your relationship’s bank account. Your goal, however, should not be to make a huge withdrawal at the end of the week. Your only goal should be to keep giving the things your mate wants – either his or her expressed and unexpressed wants. If there are actions you can take to make your partner’s day more convenient and less stressful, then do them.

A Simply Perfect Baby Shower!

I LOVE weddings and sweet 16's.  The joy that I feel from being involved in the planning process is hard to describe.  From anniveraries to corporate events....at Simply Perfect Peace Events we are more than wedding planners.  We love all events and baby showers happen to be one of our favorites.  Below is a green and pink one we had the honor of working on.

These invitation by Designs by Shay were completely inspired by the mom to be.  The overlay was embossed with a cute saying which embodied her personality.

In addition to cupcakes by Sharon's Custom Cakes the table was adorned with cake pops from Aja Kearney.

The candy buffet was filled with all her favorite candy in her color scheme.  Green and Pink striped straws were the perfect fit for the pink lemonaide served on this warm summer day.

The client enjoys her yard and loves things that are pretty and simple.  So we decided that Green and Pink pots with baby breaths were appropriate.

WELCOME ELISE!!!!! YOUR SHOWER WAS SO MUCH FUN :)

Wedding Motivational Monday: Love is Patient, Love is Kind

Wedding ceremonies often use the Bible verse "Love is patient, love is kind" from I Corinthians 13:4.  However, the verse doesn't stop there and it goes on to say that same love does not envy, boast, nor is it proud.

As we discuss marriage and continue to motivate and encourage, today I would like you to think about this. "A happy, contented marriage is one where BOTH partners are constanly looking for ways to build up the other.  It is a conscious priority that is always at the forefront".

Marriage encouragement comes through patience and kindness.  Accepting your spouse as they are and promoting them in positive ways is an important factor for effectively fulfilling the role of husband and wife.  NOTE:  Building up your spouse, builds up  your marriage and your family.

There is no room for pride in a marriage.  Be aware of when encouragement is needed and more importantly, how to administer it effectively.
