A Simple Thank You!

At Simply Perfect Peace Events and Designs by Shay we plan, coordinate and manage all corporate, social and private events.  The beginning of event planning season, which started in January for us, was so exciting with many celebrations of life and wedding bliss!  While the end is bitter sweet; I'm glad for the brief rest :)  On November 27th we completed our last wedding for the 2011 season with Sara and Edward at Galleria Marchetti here in Chicago.  Weddings and events of any size have their share of challenges but it always feels good seeing a smiling couple and dancing guests.

What A Wonderful Week - Driving Denali Days #2-#5

If you've been on Facebook and Twitter then you've been following my advertures with the Acadia Denali. I must admit that it's been a fun ride and here are a few things I learned along the way.

Day #2 - "Baby It's Cold Outside"
Anyone that really knows me KNOWS that I am so over Chicago and cold weather.  First time it's under 40 degrees I'm ready to pull out the biggest coat I own.  Well, the ultra sexiness of Acadia Denali along with the climate control kept me from booking the first thing out of here to AZ or anywhere extremely warm.  It had gotten so warm at one point I opened the sunroof AND the 2nd row skylight.. #BOOMkatPOW

Day #3 - "Lights-Camera-Action"
Moooove, get out the way!  Im backing up well no thanks to the REAR VISION CAMERA SYSTEM this was watching television.  The lighting in this dynamic SUV made it real easy to put on my lip gloss at the stoplight too.. (smile) The inside reaview mirror with auto dimming made my co-pilot pretty happy too.  A cheerleader must be ready when she hits the practice floor!!

Day #4 - "Let Me Get That For You" & "Can't Touch This"
After the Denali was being scoped by her cousin the Chevy Equinox we headed to choir rehearsal where my dear brother pointed out that I did NOT have to get all the way to the car to start it.. WHAT????!!! YES indeed REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY..

Day #5 "Get Up, Get Out and Do Something"
Making moves Friday - life as a mother and planner keeps me GOING!  This Acadia Denali has a 3.6L SIDI V6 Engine with a 6-SPD Automatic Transmission which made hitting the eway real nice.  Duel exhaust with chrome tips let the other know to get out of our way.... Well, all that power and no direction, I got a little lost today.. ONSTAR to the rescue!! With a hit of a button the friendly voice had no problem guiding me to my destination.

~SPECIAL GIVEAWAY!!!~
Driving Denali has been indeed a stress LESS experience and to celebrate that Profound Touch Mobile Spa wants you to be stress LESS too.  They are giving $10 off a 30 minute massage!!! Visit their page and mention "Designs By Shay and GMC are making moves"  *other rules apply and determined by Cheryl Harris of Profound Touch Mobile Spa*

Wait.... after the massase you may want to do a little more pampering AND get glam'd up!
Rasheeda Bibbs (a fabulous natural hair stylist) is offering $10 off eyelashes!!! Visit HER page and mention "Designs by Shay and GMC are bringing sexy back" *contact Rasheeda directly for details*

~ Enjoy!!!

Driving Denali Day #1

Monday is generally my "admin" day.  The day where I am able to catch up on all the things that I couldn't do over the weekend.  So I'm sitting in bed (hey, don't judge me) with my laptop and my cell and the dog begins to bark.  Just great..an unexpected guest.  No REALLY, just GREAT!!!  My GMC Arcadia Denali arrived.  Dog is going nuts and I'm geeked.

Did you know the GMC Arcadia Denali features luxury cues plus refined styling.  A smooth ride and responsive handling not to mention impressive fuel efficiency.

Day #1 of Driving Denali for myself and my co-pilot (Kianna) was quite interesting.  The feature of the day was being able to look at the road and see the mileage ahead of me.. HEAD UP DRIVER DISPLAY Whaaaaat? Oh yeah we're winning!!!

2012 GMC Acadia is the only vehicle in the class that offers this feature standard.
Keeps the driver's eye on the road, and allows complete control over the cabin.

In honor of this wonderful feature of visual awareness and Chevy turning 100 ... DESIGNS BY SHAY is offering $10 OFF design fees in addition to the 10% off print fee offered on Facebook and Twitter.

BUSINESS TIPS from the International Wedding Summit

Carley Roney (The Knot), Rory Tahari (Elie Tahari), Dylan Lauren (Dylan’s Candy Bar), David Berke (Colin Cowie Lifestyle), Sylvia Weinstock (Sylvia Weinstock Cakes), Mara Urshel (Kleinfeld) discussed their foray into the industry & plans for the future

New York, NY (November, 2011) --- Tatiana Byron, renowned celebrity event planner and Founder of The Wedding Salon, the nation’s premier luxury bridal showcase, launched a new horizon in educational seminars, The International Wedding Summit. Byron presented an industry learning event at Bayard’s at The India House bringing together the top names in bridal and key entrepreneurs.
“We are thrilled by the success of The International Wedding Summit! After years of working in the bridal industry & marketing to brides, we began to see the need for a truly educational seminar led by industry leaders.  We were delighted to pull together the best business minds behind the biggest brands to create the ultimate learning experience,” reveals Tatiana Byron.
A common theme discussed during the Summit was the importance of staying true to ones brand, following your ‘gut instinct’ and abiding by a mission statement. Dylan Lauren told the story of splitting with her business partner in the early days of Dylan’s Candy Bar, as their brand vision differed. Lauren envisioned a luxury brand and was not willing to discount, because of this she had to turn down lucrative deals with malls and even Target, but she stuck with her mission and has now established the leading candy store in the country.

Rory Tahari told about her days as Vice-Chairman of Elie Tahari, stressing the importance of adapting quickly to change, relaying “When Change is Inevitable, the Sooner the Better.” Tahari explained the difficulties managing a large company during an economic recession, saying that she was forced to think quickly & act.  Tahari had to make numerous cuts, but as painful as it was, it saved the company. Rory additionally stressed the importance of treating every person in a respectful manner, regardless of position, as you never know where you will meet again.

David Berke, President of Colin Cowie Lifestyle additionally spoke on the importance of branding and staying true to your brand telling how early on they used the word “Lifestyle” next to the Colin Cowie name to focus on the fact that Colin Cowie incorporated more than just weddings, from design of hotels and restaurants to custom Lenox china collections. Both Berke & Sylvia Weinstock explained the importance of staying true to brand even in times of recession mentioning that they did not drop pricing, but instead sought out new opportunities that incorporated different price points.

Weinstock focused on birthday cakes & other cake-making opportunities during the recession, while Cowie pursued weddings and events at different budget points. WeddingWire’s CMO, Sonny Ganguly discussed the importance of online marketing, as today’s bride lives online. This online boom is evident on Facebook, where 1.7 million women are listed as “Engaged” on the networking site. Ganguly explained that the difficult thing about bridal marketing is that the customer is always the same age. To stay ahead of technology, marketers must look to what teenagers are doing now, adapting their strategies to stay ahead of competition.

Carley Roney, told her story of how she launched The Knot starting with an idea, a vision and a focus, staying true to her brand and mission. Roney built the brand in the early days of internet by utilizing her own experience and the experience of engaged friends. She said an interesting notion with The Knot is that the majority of women aren’t’ even engaged yet, but are already signed up, showing that bridal marketing should start even before a woman is engaged.

Mara Urshel, co-founder of Kleinfeld, stressed the importance of customer service when dealing with brides. The engagement process is a stressful time period and vendors should continuously follow up with clients continuously to make sure the bride is comfortable and has all her questions answered. The majority of brides have friends who are engaged and word-of-mouth is irreplaceable, so always make sure each bride feels like they are the most important customer.

There is always something new and exciting at THE WEDDING SALON... Look for more soon!

Winter Planning for your PETS {GIVEAWAY}

You've removed the Halloween decorations from your home and have started preparing for Thanksgiving; a time for family and friends to come together and give thanks. While you may be somewhat prepared for the arrival of guests but are you and your pets ready for lady Winter?

Here in Chicago, we've been fortunate thus far because lady Winter has been kind to us. However, just as sure as the sun rises and sets winter is on the way. Are you prepared for what comes along with winter? It may seem as easy as grabbing a jug of ice melt from the store, but like different shampoos clean our hair, not all ice melts are created equal. Choosing the wrong melter can not only waste time and money, it can cause unnecessary harm to sidewalks, driveways, pets and vegetation. Getting educated about how ice melt works and how to select the right one can be instrumental in having a fun and safe season.

Did you know, when melted ice seeps into concrete, this liquid refreezes and expands (similar to an ice cube in a tray), pushing apart the concrete – which may cause visible damage. The more times ice melts and refreezes, the greater potential of damage to concrete. To combat this, Morton Salt developed its Safe-T-Plus Ice Melt, which is a blend of KCl, NaCl, Urea and HEC, that melts in temperatures down to 5OF. The HEC works to minimize damage to concrete surfaces, while Urea and KCl are common fertilizers which make it safer for plants, lawns and shrubs than traditional melting salt. This everyday option is the smarter solution for homeowners looking to protect their outdoor walkways and landscaping during winter.

Also - Any ice melt containing salt (such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride) is irritating to pets’ paws? That's why Morton Salt developed its salt-and chloride-free solution Safe-T-Pet recommended by vets to be safer for pet paws, skin and eyes than traditional melting salt.

Right now, Morton Salt is running a winter safety campaign for pets alongside the ASPCA. Here is your chance to win a Morton Salt prize pack.

Pack Includes: Safe-T-Pet mini jugs - Ice scraper - Fleece blankets - Retractable leash - Dog paw-shaped USBs - Paper hang tag - Sharpies
